Proof you don't need a high school diploma to become a multi-millionaire

OK so apparently Michael Bay (director of the modern mega-movie blockbuster) wasn't happy with how his Transformers sequel was being marketed by the studio. This is the letter he wrote. If you had told me it was written by a 7th grader with learning disabilities I would not be surprised.
Enjoy.

Movies schmoovies

As I was walking home today, I came to the sad realization that I am no longer the summer movie junkie I once was. I used to wait with baited breath for the movie release schedule. Nearly every second weekend I would line up for the latest Hollywood blockbuster. The summer movie season is well underway and there is only one movie that I truly want to/have to see (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince). Does this mean that I have finally grown up? That I have lost a bit of imagination or child-like wonder?

I'd like to think that Hollywood has just let me down and up-chucked a series of rehashed, CGI-filled, story-less messes (GI Joe, Transformers 2, Night of the Museum 2 etc... etc... etc...). Five years ago these movies would quicken my pulse (ok, maybe not Night of the Museum). Now they barely even register.

The truth is, there is a reason why advertisers pay more for the coveted demographic of 18-26 yr olds. These are the people buying stuff and seeing stuff. As you get older, there are less surprises and it becomes much harder to be impressed by anything.

The one surprise so far has been Star Trek. Just a good old-fashioned, well made space romp with laughs and smarts. Bravo. This is coming from a guy who maybe saw one Star Trek episode in his entire life.

Have I just grown up, or has Hollywood f-cked the goat?

Long time no see

Howdy folks...been a while. I've been neglecting this space, that I know. However, I will probably be posting something shortly...been accumulating a lot of stuff to write about. Weddings, relationships etc... In the latest addition to the WTF file, information on the "re-imagining"/live action remake of "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe"...titled "Grayskull". Click here!

I have no shame in admitting I was a He-Man junkie as a kid. But I will also admit I have absolutely no idea how they plan to make a decent, watchable movie out of this. What are your thoughts?

cheers

Trailering Harry + Update

Potter of course. Click HERE

Can't wait. Looks amazing.

It's been over two months since my last post which I guess points realistically to the slow demise of this blog. I will not be updating this often, but I will update once in a while. I guess this is one of those updates.

On my radar:
1) New Killers album - good stuff, recommended. Especially "Human" and "this is your life".
2) Goldfish - African-themed jazz/world music/new-age funk. Very chilled. Thanks ZZ.
2) Californication - very enjoyable series, recommended download. I watched the first season in record time and am now onto the second. David Duchovny is awesome, and so is the abundant T&A and the snappy writing. Really has helped pick me up after the disappointment of Entourage season 5 ending.
3) Liverpool - near the top of the best league in the world. Though watching games is becoming increasingly stressful and sometimes disappointing, finally being in the race for the title makes this exciting times for Liverpool fans.
4) Waltz with Bashir - Excellent animated documentary from Israel which just won Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes and is now Oscar-nominated. Animation is stunning, story is powerful.

That is it for now...though I may be back soon with a look at my 20's...as I enter my 30's!!

Hope all is great.

Tipsy

Well it is Tuesday night, but feels like a Thursday, as thank fuck we get Thursday and Friday off for American thanksgiving. Halle-fucking-lujah! Praise Buddha, praise baby Jesus, praise Mohammed and G-d Himself. It feels like a Thursday as I have had a few beverages too many and can take solace in the fact that nothing I do at work tomorrow morning will have any lasting impact (well, hopefully). I need not be coherent or even semi-coherent, and I have (obviously) used this to my advantage by pounding back several Black Velvet's in quick succession. To the uninitiated, the Black Velvet is the beguiling sweet yet bitter combination of cider and Guiness (one of the most beloved beverages in the world). It revolts newbies yet thrills everyone else. Try it at your own risk.

I am at this very second torn between confiding the thoughts that are racing Schumacher-like through my head, and...well, not confiding them. Evidently I am not confiding them, but let me tell you friend, it is tempting. The reckless, alcohol-fueled portion of my mind says, go nuts, let it all out. The responsible yet fast-relinquishing-control portion says, get a hold of yourself you fucking lunatic. No more drunken raves and rants.

Alas, I have always listened to the sensible part of my brain and will do so again. Something tells me I will be happy about this in the morning.

G'nite people. Be well. Have a great long weekend if you have one. If not, HAHAHAHA. Suckers.

I spoke too soon

Turns out my come-back-from-the-dead re-appearing blog trick was just that. A trick. Because not for the first and certainly not the last time, my mind is filled with thoughts which my fingers steadfastly refuse to type.

In fact, I've just deleted a paragraph of text that is just a little too personal, even for this blog. It's soppy and romantic and, of course, it's about a girl. It's at this point that I am reminded about an observation I made in one of my first posts. How opening up your blog to friends and family really diminishes what you can write about for reasons of sheer dignity and self-preservation. And how funny and ironic and strange it is that it is easier to open up in this personal forum to absolute strangers who I will never know than to the people who I have broken bread with for most of my life.

So rather than wax on philosophical,
In an attempt to be comical,
I will again depart in a goodbye so crushing,
But not before I introduce you to my blog about nothing.

p.s. I changed the name of the blog not only to reflect the infrequent nature of upcoming updates, but for privacy reasons as well. I feel like Gene Hackman in The Conversation. Only "not".
