A little bit of Europe

Where to start? At the end? OK, fine. I arrived back Sunday morning to glorious sunshine and a warm breeze, the promise of summer finally coming to fruition. My mind foggy, the result of 11 nights in 5 cities and 3 countries (4 if you consider Northern Ireland) and more than enough pints of the good brew, still circulating in my bloodstream. I smell like a person who has used deodorant to cover sweat one time too many. My breath hints of sour orange juice and a grisly lamb and mint pastry that posed as a nutritional meal.

I turn to my brother and say with a tired smile, "The wig, the glasses, the catch-phrase, brilliant!", mimicking a bit character in an episode of Extras that became a source of many a laff upon repeated viewings on the video iPod. Bystanders who hear it look at me as though I have just mentioned I like to copulate with goats in my spare time. We have a quiet laugh and he repeats the phrase. I am tired, yet exhilirated. The trip has renewed my spirit. I feel more awake than I have in weeks.

I try to think where I was the night earlier, and decide on London. A night in King's Cross. On the rooftop patio of a bar in King's Cross, a formerly shady part of the city now becoming the cool part, as tends to happen unbelievably often. Crowds and smoke and whisky and catching up with an old friend.

My mind stretches back two nights and I am in Dublin. Home of U2 and Guiness. I am predrinking in the B&B with Zigzag and my brother, we finish a litre of whisky and red bull and coke and stumble towards Temple Bar, which is like heaven for alcoholics. I remember dancing. And then greasy curry and cheese fries which might as well have been filet mignon.

And there you have it. Random memories part 1.

And now I will give in to the jetlag.

Back

OK, so I am back. Unfortunately the economics of European Internet usage meant I could not update this blog while I was away. I will be summarizing my thoughts over the next few days...in the meantime I am off in search of a hot shower, some fresh clothes and an effective alcohol detox program.

so it's UK

Well I have made the executive decision to travel to the UK instead of Croatia - fear not, I will get back to Croatia one day, the idea I had of only travelling there when you're young is simply stupid. I love travelling and will continue to travel throughout my life. The time of year and lack of time was the final decider...I will try to keep this blog updated as I travel, so feel free to check for updates and pictures.

Cheerio.

so it's Croatia.

My gut is saying go with Croatia; simple laziness says Scotland and Ireland. Croatia is not the easiest place to get to on a shoestring budget and considering the lack of travel time, the scenic shores of Ireland seem the responsible choice. But then I've always been the responsible one, so it's time for a change. London 11-12th, Croatia 12-20th, London 20-22nd. It may not be peak season but I simply don't give a fuck at this point. Get me to Croatia, get me a beer, and get me to a beach. All the rest is details.

To those to celebrate Passover I wish you Chag Sameach. Enjoy the week of matzah madness, and the constipation that is sure to follow.
